VDS vs VPS: What's the Difference?
Both VDS and VPS use virtualization, but the CPU allocation is fundamentally different. VPS gives you shared CPU time, so your virtual cores compete with other users on the same physical hardware. Under load, VPS performance can fluctuate as the hypervisor divides CPU resources among all the VMs.
VDS plans carry four to sixteen vCPU and 8 to 32 GB of RAM, against one to four vCPU and 1 to 4 GB on a VPS. The extra headroom is what shows up with CPU-intensive workloads: databases stay responsive, compilation doesn't slow down, and web applications absorb traffic spikes instead of queueing behind them.
VDS costs more than VPS because it gives you several times the vCPU, memory and storage. It's the step between an entry plan and full dedicated hardware, ideal when you've outgrown VPS but don't need to rent an entire physical server.
